Meet our Staff
Dr. Joseph Farkas
Butch grew up in South Euclid and graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor in Zoology and The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine. He moved back to the Cleveland area in 1998 to join his parents in practice at Belvoir Pet Hospital. Butch lives in Highland Heights with his wife, Lissa, and their sons Tyler, Sam and Jack. Life is very busy, but he still finds time to participate in races (biking, running, swimming) and enjoys yoga. He can also be found driving Tyler back and forth to swim practice and attending his meets! The Farkas family adopted a new puppy named Finn in 2016 whom they all just adore!
Dr. Laurel Tree
Dr. Tree graduated from Oklahoma State University --The most popular question she is asked is, “Are you from Oklahoma?” She is a native Ohioan but married an Oklahoma Cowboy. She started veterinary school at Ohio State and transferred to Oklahoma State to become a Cowgirl. She has two kids who she is totally in love with. She has the world’s most loyal and adoring dog, Fritz. If she had any free time, she enjoys swing dancing, gardening and traveling. Her goal for this year is to improve her photography skills!
Dr. Chris Laskin
Chris graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor in Zoology, and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. While planning for her career in veterinary medicine, she worked as a veterinary assistant for 7 years. She has been practicing since 1994 and started here at Belvoir in May of 2009. Some of her interests are emergency medicine, dentistry and general surgery. Some of her hobbies include cooking, gardening, and of course, her pets : a Cane Corso with Addison’s disease and a cat posse. Chris is also a strong advocate for environmental conservation.
Dr. Heather Izanec
Heather graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor in English. She completed her premedical studies while working as a veterinary technician. After graduation in 2000 from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Darien Animal Hospital and The Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT. Heather worked in private practice in New York City before moving to North East Ohio in 2003. Prior to joining Belvoir Pet Hospital in January 2009, Heather worked both in private practice and as a shelter surgeon at The Cleveland Animal Protective League. Heather and her family adopted Cinnabun in 2017 with whom they enjoy hiking as often as possible.
Dr. George Banta
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Dr. Banta received his Bachelors in Chemistry at Trinity College in Hartford, CT; Then a Masters in Chemistry at Purdue University. He worked for 8 years as a rubber compounder for Bridgestone/Firestone before graduating with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University. He interned at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro, NC. Much of his career has been spent working as an Emergency Veterinarian in specialty hospitals. Dr. Banta also ran the Brown Mackie College Veterinary Technichian program in Akron, OH for 2 years. He has special interest in emergency and critical care and has 2 cats named Zorro and Freya.
Veterinary Technician, RVT
Laura graduated from Columbus Tech, in 1983. She and Judy were both hired in 1983 and have been working here together ever since. Laura is Belvoir’s core dental and surgery technician. In her spare time, she enjoys scrapbooking and crocheting and she has a cat named Thomas.
Veterinary Technician, RVT
Veronica graduated from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri C) in 2007 and has been working in the veterinary field since 2006. She was hired in November of 2010 and loves the client interaction and feels that client education is important. Veronica used to sing in a band before she had her two children, so now she sings to them! She enjoys family time and has two cats and one dog and a bird.
Veterinary Technician, LVT
Selina Graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 2009. She earned her associates of Veterinary Technology from Stautzenberger College in 2013. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, nature, fashion and her pets. She has 2 rabbits named Panther and Cheetah.
Debbie has been the office manager at Belvoir since March of 2003. Previously, she was a receptionist for the Doctors Farkas from 1969 to 1972. She is glad to have the opportunity to be back at Belvoir Pet Hospital. Debbie has three grown children and enjoys being a grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren. She loves spending time with her husband and family and her yellow Labrador, Emma. Debbie also enjoys reading, music, gardening and being outdoors.
Meghan graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in 2006 in Applied Business in Visual Communication and Design with a concentration in graphic design. She also received a certificate of proficiency in graphic design. In May of 2008, Meghan joined the crew at Belvoir as a receptionist. In her spare time away from work, she loves to shop, bake, and go to the movies.
Lea is a Mayfield High School grad and currently a Cleveland State University student. She has been with belvoir since 2017 and works as a Receptionist and Surgical Assistant. She enjoys forensics, playing video games, reading, and puzzles. She has a gorgeous kitty named Diana; along with Melba, Indy, Orion and Max whom reside in the family household.
Dustin Graduated from Miami University(Ohio) in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, and a co-minor of Environmental Sciences. He has been in the Veterinary field since 2014 ; He inspires to work at the Zoo and he enjoys handling animals. In his spare time, Dustin enjoys Gaming, Hiking, Trail Running, Collection Pokémon cards and Tattoos. His pets include April(dog), Kitty(cat), Chong(cat), Harley(cockatiel), Zuzu(finch), Lulu(Green Iguana), Dudley(tortoise), Amy(turtle), Toasty(ferret), Kahlua(hedgehog).
Sarah joined the Belvoir team in October of 2019 as a Veterinary Assistant. She has also been attending Tri-C for an Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degree. She will start the Veterinary Technology program at Tri-C in the Fall of 2021. Sarah graduated from Wickliffe High School. Even though Sarah was hired as an assistant in Oct., she has stepped up her role and has become our COVID-19 Runner and Curbide champion! You have all probably seen her running through the parking lot, making sure your fur-babies are brought in safe and sound! She also enjoys running in her free time away from Belvoir and loves doing crafts and making jewlery. She has one dog named Jessie.
